Promoting health and well-being at work is a strategy that aims to motivate healthy lifestyle habits in the workplace.
Objective: To design a health promotion and prevention strategy for chronic non-communicable diseases focused on cardiovascular disease in a Higher Education Institution in Bogotá.
Materials and methods: An analysis of the database of the Higher Education Institution's health promotion and disease prevention program was carried out. From this, a cohort of workers with greater adherence to the program was created to identify their characteristics.
Results: The population that presented greater adherence to the program had the following characteristics: women (73 %), body mass index at levels of overweight or obesity (51,5 %), hypercholesterolemia (51 %), hypertriglyceridemia (35 %), very low or low cardiovascular risk (90 %), smokers (25,75 %) and perform routine physical activity (9 %). Within the work areas, participants from the university's administrative area were the ones who had the highest adherence to the program (55 %).
Conclusions: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality in Colombia and the world (approximately 44%), generating the need to establish specific actions in the face of the challenge of maintaining and promoting cardiovascular health. Due to the above, the characteristics of the people who had the most adherence to the program of the higher education institution were established.
