Abstract

Teachers in basic primary educational institutions are an occupational group that uses the voice as their work tool, providing knowledge to favour students' teaching and learning process.
Objective: to describe the voice care in basic primary school teachers reported in the literature from 2019 - 2023.
Materials and methods: A narrative review, with the following phases: problem identification, bibliographic search, evaluation and data analysis. The search was carried out using the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, Virtual Health Library, SAGE Journals, ScienceDirect and Ovid.
Results: 27 articles were included. There is a stable publication trend in the last five years. The countries with the highest scientific production on the subject of study were Brazil, China and the United States of America. Three main categories were identified: health promotion and prevention of voice disorders, detection and treatment, economic cost, and health effects. Most of the care
was provided by speech therapists.
Conclusions: Voice care strategies for school teachers include psychological support to avoid stress, appropriate breathing techniques, hydration, preventing the consumption of substances that affect the vocal apparatus, modulation of the tone, active pauses and control of environmental aspects that cause voice wear in teachers. Interdisciplinary work must continue to be strengthened to preserve the voice of this occupational group.
